Introduction to smallholding

The Essentials

We aim to keep the numbers attending our courses small. In other words depending on the course type we will have a maximum of 4 to 10 people per course. This ensures that everyone is able to get the most out of the course. Most importantly you will have plenty of opportunities to get ‘hands on’ experience, and ask questions as we go through the day.

What to wear

All smallholder and countryside courses are run outdoors so please come prepared. Check the weather before you depart. Consequently, in the winter we advise wearing sturdy boots or wellingtons, with a warm jacket and hat. If it’s raining a waterproof jacket and waterproof trousers would be essential. However in summer it can get hot so please bring a sun hat, sun cream and light but sturdy footwear (trainers are appropriate). Most importantly please wear clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty.

Note: In the current Covid 19 conditions we are providing appropriate sanitisers, and will ensure all areas are appropriately cleaned. Please bring a mask.

What to Bring

You may find a notebook useful, however we will also provide you with an online resource pack containing information on the key topics we will cover.  You are welcome to take photographs throughout the day, but please be sensitive to other course participants that may not want to be photographed.

Food

Please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements. All our lunches are vegetarian.

Accessibility

Due to the nature of the farms and workshop spaces, not all areas are easily accessible for people with disabilities. Please advise us in advance if you require any assistance or have special needs, and we will do our best to accommodate.

From our Customers

Just wanted to drop you a quick message to say a massive thank you for yesterday. We all really enjoyed it and you opened our eyes to something totally different to what we would normally do.
