We offer a variety of Countryside Courses in Brittany, France.

The Woodland courses will be run at one of our two forest areas just outside the town of Le Croisty, Dept 56. The Orchard courses will be held at Bellevue Permaculture site.

timelines

Start at 9:30 am for coffee and introductions. Then we have a break for lunch, and finish off the day with tea and biscuits ready to depart at 17:00.

We will provide refreshments and biscuits, but ask that course participants bring along their own packed lunch. Please bring along your own mug/cup for coffee/tea and a bottle of water.

Managing a Small Woodland – 1 day

About This Event

This one day overview course is perfect for you if you are, either currently managing or planning to manage a woodland.

Should you wish to learn how to add value from an economic and ecological standpoint this is the course to book.

By the end of the course you will have the foundations to implement your own woodland management plan.

Managing a small woodland weekend – 2 days

About This Event

This practical weekend course gets you out into the woods learning the skills and techniques of sustainable woodland management.

Our course is perfect for you if you either currently have, or planning to purchase a woodland. 

You will gain a comprehensive overview of how to manage a woodland sustainably. We will also look at biodiversity conservation and woodland management skills. We will cover both practical and theoretical aspects of managing a small wood, so that by the end of the course you will have the foundations to approach your own woodland management confidently.

  8. Trees to finished products (cutting, milling, extraction, using green wood, charcoal burning, making products such as walking sticks, fences, hurdles, gates etc)

This one-day course is an opportunity to gain practical skills in organic orchard management.

  • Planning and preparing the Orchard
  • Rootstocks and varieties
  • Sourcing and choosing trees for cooking, eating, juicing and cider
  • Digging, planting, staking, mulching
  • Protection and aftercare for orchard trees
  • Basics on pruning
  • Pruning tools and equipment
  • Orchard management to include grazing, mowing, feeding, watering 
  • Introduction to brewing cider, cider vinegar, making chutneys and juicing your fruit
